Lucy's IVF story

We had been trying to conceive for about two years when we decided to see our GP about it. We had a few tests and found out that my husband had low sperm morphology and I have a short luteal phase so we were referred to the NHS fertility services. They wanted us to be trying for 3 years before they would consider us for treatment and we felt as though we didn’t have any more time to wait. It didn’t look like it would happen naturally, so we decided to look at private IVF treatment.

The main thing we were looking for were success rates. We were actually quite shocked to see how low some of the clinic’ success rates were. We knew that we would be investing a lot, both emotionally and financially, in IVF treatment so we wanted to make sure that we have the best possible chance of success.

abc ivf were recommended to us though a friend who had had a baby with abc’s help and we decided to have a look at the clinic. Our friend had such a good experience, it felt as though we had nothing to lose.

The initial consultation and scan was really thorough and we were explained everything in great detail. We had lots of opportunities to ask questions and that was really reassuring. We were so confident in abc that we decided to go ahead with treatment straight away. It was amazing that we could start right away and that they worked with my natural menstrual cycle, making what we assuming would be a really stressful journey as easy as possible for us.

We felt extremely happy to have abc by our side though this journey. We felt supported throughout and the communication was great too. I remember having to call one of the nurses at the weekend and the fact that that was an option was fantastic. Everything was straight forward with abc.

After the egg collection we were kept in the loop very regularly and told how our embryos were developing. Even on the journey back home from the procedure we received a call from the embryology team to tell us how many eggs were collected and how they were doing. It was really nice!

I had complete trust in the abc team so we didn’t even test early because I didn’t want to ruin anything. I didn’t feel anything different, so I had sort of made my mind up that it hadn’t worked but then we went in for the blood test and received a phone call later telling us that the treatment had worked. I was pregnant from our first try and I just couldn’t believe it! It was an incredible feeling and we are so grateful to abc ivf for making our dream come true.

Life as parents is fun. It’s everything we had hoped for and more! We appreciate everyday and even when things get rough, which they do, we remember how much you’ve wanted this and it does make it all feel better. I would 100% recommend abc and actually already spoke to a few friends in similar situations and recommended abc to them.
